European Feminist Conference
Women Politics – Shaping the Feminist Future
1 and 2 of December in Zagreb
The international conference and accompanying artistic and activist program organized by the Domino association on December 1 and 2 in Zagreb gathers more than 30 politicians, artists, activists from Croatia and Europe.
The program begins at the House of Europe on Friday, December 1 at 12:30 p.m. with a panel on feminist activism with the participation of Jelena Višnjić (SRB), Mirjana Kučer (HR), Sanja Sarnavka (HR) and Arijana Lekić – Fridrih (HR) moderated by Dorotea Šušak (HR).
After the first activist panel, there will be an address by the Ombudsman for Gender Equality, Višnja Ljubičić, President of the Domino Association Zvonimir Dobrović, as well as artist Arijana Lekić-Fridrih. Members of the European Parliament, members of the Committee for Women’s Rights and Gender Equality of the European Parliament also expressed their support for the organization and the conference: Robert Biedroń, chairman of the Committee, a Polish politician and activist, Vera Tax, a Dutch politician, and Predrag Fred Matić, who will make his statements about the future of women’s rights through video messages. The ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, E. Charlotte van Baak will also address the audience.
The panel conference on women’s rights and legislative frameworks for their protection gives domestic parties the opportunity to present their policies related to women and the protection of women’s rights in the run-up to the super-election year. The panel moderated by journalist Danka Derifaj invited representatives of parties that, according to current relevant polls, cross the electoral threshold in the upcoming parliamentary elections. Participation was confirmed by political parties: HDZ, SDP, Možemo! and Most.
The rich program continues with panels and talks covering the topics of abortion, the position of women and women’s rights in the cultural sector and the arts, higher education and the education system, as well as in the media and media platforms. With a discussion on the topics of feminism and youth, in the conference we include young activists who are opening new areas of struggle these days.

Domino Association has been combining art, activism and civic responsibility for more than two decades. Thus, in collaboration with the artist Arijana Lekić Fridrih, the first public reaction to the extremists gathered in the main city squares across Croatia was created, the collective performative action “Silent Mass”. This artistic action, which will mark a year of continuous performative action with a Silent Mass in December, was created as a reaction to groups of men who are begging for, essentially, the abolition of long-acquired women’s rights. Whether it’s about chaste dressing, abortion control or the spiritual authority of men in family relationships – these kinds of gatherings deeply harm the position of women and women’s rights in our society. As part of the program of this conference, we are also preparing a large collective art installation with 12 artists to commemorate the 12th Silent Mass of Arijana Lekić Fridrih.
Arijana Lekić Fridrih and Marko Marković will perform a performance that thematizes the public discourse related to femicide in Croatian society. The photos from previous Silent Masses and the work “Bog i Krvatice” by Lucija Žuta will also be exhibited.
