Posljednjih desetljeća snimatelji_ce eksperimentalnih filmova istražuju ekološki osviještene pristupe analognom snimanju, koristeći eco-friendly pripravke kao što su: Caffenol (instant kava, vitamin C i prašak za pranje); biljke, bobičasto voće, vino ili povrće; ili tehnika fitograma. Fizička obrada analognih snimaka ima dugu tradiciju u domeni eksperimentalnog filma, iako u dominaciji bijelih, hetero i cis-muških filmaša.
Sudionici_ce radionice će imati priliku, u radu s vlastitim nađenim snimkama, preuzeti spomenutu tradiciju u svoje ruke. Radionica želi omogućiti QTBIPOC i LGBTQIA2 osobama da interveniraju u normu i preuzmu vlasništvo nad postojećim celuloidnim slikama i narativima te da rekonstruiraju nove narrative, a sve unutar okvira eko-razvijanja filma. Konačno, cilj radionice jest povećati pristup te znanje lokalnih zajednica filmaša_ica i snimatelja_ica o analognom snimanju na siguran i ekološki osviješten način te kroz obradu nađenih snimaka omogućiti rekonstrukciju QTBIPOC i LGBTQIA2 narativa.

Elian Mikkola (Finska, Turku, Karelia) je umjetnik/ca pokretnih slika i koji/a trenutno živi između Treaty 4, Regine i Montréala (Tiohtià:ke), Kanada. Mikkola je diplomirao/la novinarstvo na Sveučilištu Tampere. Završio/la je MFA medijske produkcije 2019. na Sveučilištu Regina. Mikkola radi s analognim i digitalnim slikama i njihovim hibridnim proširenjima. Njegovi/njeni radovi istražuju teme poput sjećanja, prostornih zavisnosti i queer pripadnosti. Mikkolin rad prikazan je na nekoliko filmskih festivala u Kanadi i inozemstvu. Njegov/njen debitantski film SAARI (2016.) uvršen je u TIFF-ov (Toronto International Film Festival) Canada’s Top Ten studentski program 2017., a posljednja dva filma premijerno su prikazana na Međunarodnom filmskom festivalu u Rotterdamu 2020. i Međunarodnom filmskom festivalu u Hong Kongu 2021.

In recent decades, experimental filmmakers have explored eco-conscious approaches to analog filmmaking. Experimental filmmakers are leading the way by using eco-friendly recipes such as Caffenol (instant coffee, vitamin C and washing soda); plants, berries, wine or vegetables; or the Phytogram Technique. Additionally, the act of physically manipulating analog found footage has been a long-standing tradition of experimental filmmaking, albeit dominated by white, heterosexual cis-male filmmakers. Supplied with their own found footage, workshop participants will be encouraged to take this tradition into their own hands – allowing QTBIPOC and LGBTQIA2 bodies to interrupt/disrupt existing images and narratives on the celluloid and take ownership and reconstruct a new narrative, all within an eco-processing framework. Ultimately, the goals of the workshop are to bring awareness and access to local filmmaking communities about analog filmmaking in a safe and environmentally conscious manner and to reconstruct, through manipulation of found footage, QTBIPOC and LGBTQIA2 narratives.

Elian Mikkola is a Finnish Moving Image Artist (of Karelian descent), and a white settler currently based between Treaty 4, Regina, and Montréal (Tiohtià:ke), Canada. Originally from Turku, Finland, Mikkola holds a BA in Journalism from Tampere University. They completed their MFA in Media Production in 2019 at the University of Regina. Mikkola works closely with both analog and digital images and their hybrid extensions. Their work explores themes such as memory, spatial dependences and queer belonging. Mikkola’s work has been showcased in several film festivals in Canada and internationally. Their debut film SAARI (2016) was selected to TIFF’s Canada’s Top Ten Film Festival student program in 2017 and their latest two films premiered at International Film Festival Rotterdam 2020 and Hong Kong International Film Festival in 2021.
