I hodaj njihovim ulicama, nogu pred nogu.

Zato u svakom gradu i žive tri grada: grad mrtvih, grad živih i grad nerođenih.*

To cities that elude observation. To cities that exist only in the frequencies of our thoughts. To cities that cannot return but can neither disappear. Wounded cities. Hungry cities. Cities on their knees. To angry cities as well as cities ordinary, tame, soft, still pliable, sticky, loving since spring. And to those cities that are yet to rise from the dust of our chimneys and bones.

So shut up. And walk their streets, foot before foot.

The past and the future can never meet; the same city is thus never the same. And buildings, and streets, and people do not exist like exhibits in museums and do not wait for today’s presents but live them. That is why three cities live in each city: the city of the dead, the city of the living and the city of the unborn. *

While Dolac, like a tired, dragon of the great womb sleeps, we recall the outlines of settlements, kindergartens and cemeteries that were completely demolished so that exactly 90 years ago, despite the revolt of the citizens, this modern, today adored market could be built. Place memory has been deleted as a tribute to progress. On the one hand, abolishment and collapse as death, on the other, tomato, turkey and bunch of vegetables as life. Between them, as always, we walk in silence.

DOLAC SLEEPS is a night soundwalk, i.e. a sound walk through which you are guided by a voice in the headphones with occasional live music interventions. You need to bring your own headphones and smartphone.

Pavlica Bajsić Brazzoduro (1973) is an author, dramaturg and director who has been active in radio, theatre and film since 1995. She received MA in dramaturgy at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb and in aesthetics at Paris 8 Saint-Denis on the theme of sound and documentary. In 2013 in Zagreb, she brings together a group of collaborators and launches the project of “radiophonic theatre” exploring possibilities where radio connects with theatre. The first and most known performance was about radio itself which still tours in Croatia and abroad:  HOERSPIEL: a small play for listening (and watching). This was followed by AETHER UEBER BERLIN in Berlin in 2016, German version of this performance that has gathered Berlin and Zagreb-based authors and performers and was based on research into the Berlin radio archives. In 2017 in Dubrovnik, she realized ORPHEUS LISTENING TO RADIO, a poetic fantasy inspired by Jean Cocteau’s film Orpheus. She was awarded Prix Marulić Days Award (Split), Grand Prix de Suisse, Ake Blomstrom Memorial Prize (Amsterdam), Prix Europa Guest of Honour (Berlin), and her work is included in the European Broadcasting Union’s anthology “30 Years of World Radio Documentary”.
