Feministički niqab

Park na trgu dr. Leandera Brozovića

Ksenija Kordić radom analizira odnos feminizma i Islama kroz njihovu opoziciju (neo)liberalizmu.

Transfiguracije

Sinagoga, Svilarska ulica

Cipelar

KKC Pixel, Trg mladosti 18

Ksenija Kordić analyzes with this work the relationship between feminism and Islam through their opposition towards (neo)liberalism. By removing the focus on the primitive patriarchy, there are many antifeministic and irrational assumptions, which are very well supporting imperialism, both from the liberal and the right positions, because the relation to niqab is the same as the relation to Islam, which is historically and classically very burdoned. Niqab contains the awareness of male domination and is in line with the feminist ‘“male gaze“ concept that is almost impossible to articulate under neoliberalism. Though adhering to oppression, niqab at least recognizes the oppressor, and therefor is still a political step in front of those who think that gender equality has already been aquiered.

Ksenija Kordić finished the School of Applied Art and Design in Zagreb in 1997, and in 2004 graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, at the Department of Teacher Education and in the Painting Class of Professor Miroslav Šuteja. She is the author of 20 independent and 50 group exhibitions and performances, and is a member of HDLU and HZSU. In her work she uses and explores new media (performance, video, installations, photography, 3D computer design), and thematically she is preoccupied with feminism, political activism, and identities, especially religious and gender.

Transfigurations

Sinagoga, Svilarska ulica

Video-installation Transfigurations relies on the performance Transfiguration by Olivier De Sagazan. The work shows, through the research of the transformative nature of everyday rituals (such as dressing), a slow portrait in iconic-sacral form, with accompanying field-recordings. Although essentially a video portrait, the work was created without the author’s presence; namely, the author instructs the subject of the portrait, puts the camera on and leaves the space. In this way the portrayed person is left to introspect, but again with the presence of the lens as a substitute for the human view. The portraited person performs a choreography of dressing up. The work is of a contemplative nature, in the line of video works by Bill Viole.

Bojan Koštic was born in Koprivnica. He graduated in Croatian Studies and completed undergraduate studies in Latin Language and Literature. During his studies, he was active in journalism and literary criticism. He is the founder is also the secretary of the Association Pod Galgama, in which he also set up the author’s play Krleža’s love quiz. He is a co-author of the book Krležia’s eu / ropean furiosum published by the Pod Galgama association. He is an active member of the Mamuze association. Founder and Coordinator of the FUNK Independent Culture Forum. He works as a curator and technician at AK Gallery. He is active in the field of photography, video and performance. He has exhibited at several group exhibitions, two solo exhibitions of photographs and is author of several performances.

Shoe salesman

KKC Pixel, Trg mladosti 18

Performance Shoe salesman is a reaction to the ever rising wave of emigration throughout Croatia. The artist, walking from the bus station – place of departure to the center of town – pulls behind him shoes that are tied to his waist, alluding to all the shoes of his countrymen who were left behind when they emigrated abroad. The sound produced by the shoes filled with bells is accompanied by price-scoring for shoes that passers-by can buy from artist dressed in a black work uniform that symbolizes all highly educated immigrants who have gone to do physical jobs abroad.

From these shoes they have escaped – a popular expression
The most strange thing when people die are their shoes. That’s the most tragic thing. Like most of their personality remains in their shoes. – Charles Bukowski.
