Spirit and Body: The Inspiration of Vlasta Delimar
Under the title “Spirit and Body: The Inspiration of Vlasta Delimar,” this year’s Night of Performance establishes a temporary space of encounter: between generational experiences, different strategies of presence, and the ever-relevant question—what does it mean today to work with and from the body through art that is at once deeply personal and inevitably political?
On the occasion of the 70th birthday of Vlasta Delimar, an artist whose practice erases the boundaries between private and public, personal and political, between female exposure and female power, the program is conceived as an open platform for reflection on and reinterpretation of her long-standing body of work, which has profoundly shaped performance art in both local and international contexts.
We invite artists to submit their works—in progress or completed—in dialogue with this legacy. The program is shaped as an open platform for reflection and reinterpretation, not of Delimar’s oeuvre as a closed body of work, but as a living methodological framework for reading and a tool for questioning. It challenges new generations to examine their own positions within and in relation to it.
Proposed works may engage with themes that have marked Delimar’s practice: the body as medium, intimacy as a public act, the passage of time, love, exposure, pleasure, as well as the broader contexts in which these concepts are being renegotiated today. Where is the line drawn between intimacy and spectacle? In what ways are the passage of time, love, and exposure transformed when taken up by a new generation or a different body?
This year’s Night of Performance is conceived as a program that transcends the normative flow of performance. The works do not exist in parallel; they encounter and contextualize one another, building temporary meta-worlds in which different logics of corporeality, presence, and time are brought into productive tension.
The program will take place as part of the Perforacije Festival on June 13, 2026, in Zagreb.
