The new Domino co-production BABIN KUK GORI will premiere on Wednesday, March 4, at KNAP Theatre.
The play is directed by Gonzalo Quintana, who brings his recognizable energy of contemporary theatrical expression, a dynamic rhythm, and a strong blend of humor, music, and emotion to this production. In the leading roles, the audience will see two highly talented young actresses—Ivana Sinovčić and Lea Jevtić. At the center of the story are two friends who set off toward Babin Kuk in order to stop a wedding—because what is an invitation for others is an alarm for them.
When love delivers its final blow and common sense takes a vacation, they get into a car and embark on a wild journey from Zagreb to Dubrovnik, in the peak of summer heat, with music turned all the way up and emotions that cannot even fit in the trunk. Babin Kuk Gori is a lively and completely unhinged musical comedy about two women who are crazy from love, heat, and life, and who, in a moment of emotional overload, decide to start fighting for happiness—if necessary, down to the last drop of blood.
This is not a journey toward men. This is not an escape from sadness, neglect, or from the constant expectation to be “normal” and endlessly understanding of everyone except oneself.
The performance is produced by Domino as part of the 24th Queer Zagreb Season and the KNAP Theatre, within the program line “The Whole World is a Stage,” which connects young international directors with young actors living and working in Zagreb.
