Performance Night “Homage to Vlasta Delimar”

On the occasion of Vlasta Delimar’s 70th birthday, an artist whose practice has continuously blurred the boundaries between the private and the public, the personal and the political, and between female exposure and female power, this year’s Performance Night is conceived entirely as a homage to Vlasta Delimar. The programme is shaped as an open platform for reflection and reinterpretation of her long-standing practice, which has had a profound impact on performance art in both national and international contexts.
The all-day event featuring five site-specific performances begins with a reinterpretation and multiplication of the 1985 performance Bound to a Tree, performed by Vlasta Žanić and collaborators at Zrinjevac in Zagreb, addressing the once again urgent issue of the erosion of hard-won women’s rights amid a new wave of conservatism and traditionalism.
This is followed by Argentine trans artist Maiamar Abrodos performing The Right to Orgasm After 60 at the Bruketa& One Piece Gallery in Kaptol Centre. At the same venue, Arijana Lekić-Fridrih draws on Vlasta Delimar and Milan Božić’s performance Conversation with a Warrior, or the Woman Has Disappeared, expanding it through questions of what remains once the warrior disappears from the frame, and who continues to sustain the structures, values, and narratives he represented.
Bruno Isaković reinterprets Delimar’s iconic performance I Love Cock in the courtyard of the Zagreb Dance Centre, while at the same location Argentine artist Lucia Giannoni presents her reference to the work You Should Trust Men.
Through this series of performances, commissioned by curator Zvonimir Dobrović, a temporary space of encounter is established: between generational experiences, different strategies of presence, and the ever-relevant question of what it means today to work with and through the body in art that is at once deeply personal and inevitably political.
