The new edition of ETNO QUEER is coming!
Directed by Hrvoje Korbar, the performance addresses the contemporary social climate marked by the rise of neoconservatism, using the language of tradition and folkloric motifs to open a space for reflection on gender equality, democratic values, and the responsible freedom of thought. ETNO QUEER: Korota (eng. mourning) examines the relationships between heritage and contemporaneity, norms and resistance, collective memory and personal position. Throughout the evening, new re-/presentational formats developed within the project will be introduced, alongside materials created through collaboration between artists and institutions. The programme is hosted by Željka Jelavić, museum advisor and Head of Museum Education at the Ethnographic Museum Zagreb, and Zvonimir Dobrović, project initiator and Artistic Director of Queer Zagreb. Movement is by Bruno Isaković, photography by Sanjin Kaštelan, and Buga Bosanac, together with the collective Vakat, will perform ganga singing.
The project is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia and the City of Zagreb Office for Culture and Civil Society, while the work of the Domino Association is supported by the National Foundation for Civil Society Development and the Kultura Nova foundation.
