“Rhapsody Dubrava” is the fourth cycle of experimental poetry workshops produced by Domino, during which the facilitators continuously question whether there are boundaries between the poetic world and its remainder in which most of us dwell during our every day life. Poetry, in this approach, emerges as something entirely close, familiar albeit not necessarily named, or rather something that with a little practice and play, we can recognize in everyday life, in its most ordinary moments. In these workshops, you will learn about estrangement from seemingly ordinary things and unraveling what is mystified and made distant and hermetic. Poets Aneta Vladimirov and Betina Ilić Grički have prepared exercises and games for all participants focusing on the artistic legacy of some of the most prominent inhabitants of the neighborhood east of Maksimir Forest and west of Sesvete. The workshops will also feature appearances by other poets and researchers of poetic techniques and non-poetic concessions. The neighborhood’s strategies of life and sunrise will be explored, wild plants will be sought after, and thoughts on the noble settlement will be encouraged, ultimately leading to the renowned Vesna Parun, whose poetry will serve as an introduction to spring in 2024.
FACILITATORS:
Betina Ilić Grički and Aneta Vladimirov belong to an ever-growing circle of poets who, through workshop work, uncover their artistic impulse. Their life experiences have shaped them towards experimentation and exploration of the poetic within other spheres of art as well as in various life formats that can satisfy the need for meaning. During the pandemic year, they met at a poetry workshop at CeKaPe with Olja Savičević Ivančević and continued together with Ivana Bodrožić. Their poems found their place in the collective poetry collection “Na početku novog kruga.” Betina is also the author of the poetry collection “Bilješke iz Petrove šume,” which was created at the same time as the award-winning animated film “Petrova šuma” based on her short story. Aneta is the author of the poetry collections “Pakao ne možeš poljubiti da prođe” and “KostFutura.”
The workshop series is part of the “Fables of the Neighborhood” (Fabule kvarta) program produced by the Domino association in partnership with the Dubrava People’s University (Narodno sveučilište Dubrava), financially supported by the City of Zagreb and the Kultura Nova Foundation.
