QUEER MOMENTS:

Of September 30th to October 3rd at the Cultural Information Center (KIC) is hosting a new edition of Domino’s film program Queer Moments , which this year brings premieres of Argentine queer films to Zagreb audiences for the first time. Over the four days of the festival, six powerful titles – fiction and documentary – will be screened, bringing diverse perspectives on identity, community, love and resistance, confirming the power of film to shape universal experiences from intimate stories.
The festival opens with Mía (dir. Javier Van de Couter, 2011), a moving story about Ala, a trans woman living on the margins of Buenos Aires, who finds the diary of a deceased young woman. Her attempt to give it to her daughter leads to an unexpected and tender relationship that questions traditional notions of family and care. The film will be screened in Tuesday, September 30th at 9 pm . The next day, in Wednesday, October 1st at 7 p.m. , audiences will be able to watch La dama (d. Sebastián Cortés, 2024), an intimate documentary about a Peruvian trans woman, Kiara, who is building a new life in Buenos Aires between nostalgia, community and virtual performances. The same day at 9 pm , El apego (d. Valentín Javier Diment, 2021), a psychological drama set in the 1970s about a young pregnant woman who seeks an illegal abortion, but instead enters into a dark and dangerous relationship with a doctor who offers her a shocking alternative, will follow.
Thursday, October 2nd brings two screenings: at 7 pm the audience will see Lo que escribimos juntos (dir. Nicolás Teté, 2024), a film about a couple who move to the countryside in search of a quieter life, but the sudden arrival of a close friend calls into question the foundations of their relationship. At 9 pm it will be followed by Yo soy Alma (dir. Mariana Manuela Bellone, 2021), a documentary portrait of trans artist, writer and singer Alma, whose life story – from serving in the police, marriages and children to returning to her birthplace – reveals the power of self-discovery through personal archives and music. The festival closes at Friday, October 3rd at 9 pm The film Tesis sobre una domesticación (dir. Javier Van de Couter, 2024), based on the novel and starring Camila Sosa Villada. This bold drama follows a famous trans actress as she builds her own version of family and professional success, while simultaneously enjoying the glamour and facing the question of the cost of maintaining that world.
