The performance “The Love Behind My Eyes” is part of a new Triptych entitled “Love” and addresses the different myths of love and passion based on the Arab heritage. The performance is inspired by a 9th-century Arab story, which recounts the tragic and forbidden love between Mohamed Bin Daoud, a theologist, scholar and jurist, and his lover Mohamed Bin Jamea, a young man from Isfahan. Many are untold stories from Arab legacy, such as this one of Bin Daoud and his lover Bin Jamea who lived in socially and religiously intense contexts. The performance also examines lyrical poetry, an art form sung in highly musical verse to convey powerful feelings. Here, they express love, in all its complexities, and the emotions of lovers.

Ali Chahrour (Beirut, Lebanon) studied theatre and dance in his native city and various schools in Europe. Far from western models, the dancer and choreographer has created a language inspired by Arab myths and by the political, social, and religious context of his country. Through it, he explores the deep relationships between the body and movement, between tradition and modernity. Told by my mother is the second part of a new trilogy about love, which began with Layl-Night in 2019 and ended with The Love Behind My Eyes (2021).
