Introducing the selected artists of the Island Connect open call 2
We present a number of European artists who have been selected for the residency program of the European project Island Connect II – Co-creation Residency, which will ultimately take place on the island of Bornholm in Denmark, from June 17 to 23, 2024.
The residential program includes Springlab, a program of training, workshops and training for all selected artists from 7 partner organizations, which is held in Komiža on Vis from April 2 to 8, 2024, organized by the Domino association, the partner manager.
The Island Connect II project is aimed at developing art on the islands and connecting the islands into a unique residential network of art organizations.
More information about the entire project is available at islandconnect.eu. We present the artists for the Co-creation residency below:
Kristina Pongrac
The artist selected to participate in the Co-creation residency of the Island Connect project from Croatia is Kristina Pongrac, a transdisciplinary artist who comes from Međimurje, and calls it “an island between two rivers”. She considers the specificity of life in a rural environment and deprivation from the content of contemporary culture to be close to those of life in an island environment. She believes that life in a small community offers a specific framework for artistic creation where the emphasis is on the essential, on coexistence with the environment. She is interested in ways of survival in the context of rural and island isolation. One of her art projects, “Young potato” involves the sale of prints made with the stamp technique, and for the production of which she used potatoes (widespread in her native region) and involved the local population performatively.
