TANKA LINIJA – VJEŽBANJE SUOSJEĆANJA
prezentacija rada u nastajanju
“Tanka linija – vježbanje suosjećanja” je Nikolinina ideja u nastajanju – praksa u kojem umjetnica uobičajene cirkuske alate poput svile, užadi i trapeza zamjenjuje ribarskim najlonom (krenom).

Nikolina Komljenović, a Croatian choreographer, contemporary dance, and aerial artist, presents a project in development: THIN LINE, PRACTICING EMPATHY on April 19th at the Firefighters’ Hall in Komiža!
April 19th at 8:00 PM – Firefighters’ Hall, Komiža
THIN LINE – PRACTICING EMPATHY
presentation of work in progress
“Thin Line – Practicing Empathy” is Nikolina’s evolving idea – a practice in which the artist replaces usual circus tools such as silk, ropes, and trapeze with fishing nylon (flax). At first glance, the monumental intertwined installation of flax appears impossible to navigate through, let alone navigate with deliberate movements of contemporary dance and aerial acrobatics. The presentation happening this Friday, April 19th at 8:00 PM, is the result of Nikolina’s residency in Komiža, where she gathered advice, stories, and experiences from local fishermen, for whom the whirl of unraveling and tangling fishing flax is everyday life. Nikolina’s work is meticulous, and the movement evokes empathy towards everything it encounters – from empathy towards the skin entwined in flax, to everything the fishing net manages to capture, to us, the spectators, who will, under the flax, catch a glimpse of a special, entangled, and empathetic artist of unusual aerial choreographies.
April 20th, 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM – Firefighters’ Hall, Komiža

NIKOLINA KOMLJENOVIĆ (1981) is a choreographer, contemporary dancer and aerialist, pedagogue, producer and creative director of the Experimental Free Scene (ekscena) association. In 2009, Nikolina was invited to Algeria as part of an intercontinental collaboration for a project of contemporary dance, hip-hop and new circus, for which she signed the aerial choreography called EL HARRAG (meaning immigrants who burn their papers), a theme that has become very popular in recent years. This project took her to the Middle East, to two contemporary dance festivals – Ramallah Contemporary Dance Festival in Palestine and Zakharef in Motion – Amman International Dance Festival in Jordan. She worked for three years as a doctor clown in the association Read Noses International. Since 2012 Nikolina has been developing the idea of Body in the Air through the project IF I PLAY A NEW GAME. Since 2013, Komljenović has been developing the project AN OBJECT IS TRANSFERRING INTO THE SUBJECT as a multilogy, which has so far dealt with the theme of the spine and the voice, and is still evolving. For the SPINE, she invented an aerial prop made of nylon, i.e. flax. Since the end of 2019, she has been developing the project THE THIN LINE, which takes place on several curtains of flax, and so far she has shown the development process as part of Cirkorama’s relaxed stage programme in Zagreb and in Split after a one-week residency organised by Circus Collective. It premiered at La Nuit du Cirque in 2021. Since 2019, Nikolina has been developing the project SAMONINI, a full-length feminist performance on a horizontal rope. She won the Island Connect residency in 2021 and was included in the Generator programme with a participatory circus and dance project for young audiences WHICH PLANET ARE YOU? performance using a dance voltige technique. The performance takes the young audience on a sensory journey.
